Biography
Kay's roots are buried deep in the black musical tradition. Joe "King" Oliver, one of the founders of jazz, is her uncle and classical composer Ulysses Kay is her father. Hillary has performed nationally for the last 20 years, opening for such greats as Ani Difranco, Taj Mahal, and Judy Mowatt (One of the original "I- Three's": Bob Marley's backing vocal group), as well as performing with Top Ten Recording Artist Sophie B. Hawkins. Hillary was also a five - year member of the Brooklyn based, ten piece, activist band The Human Condition.

Hillary is one of the original five - year members of the Shapeshifters band with Ubaka Hill. Hillary performed on guitar, bass and vocals while touring nationally with Ubaka, as well as recording the first two albums: "Shapeshifter" and "Spiral Dance". Hillary was also a guest artist on Canadian singer - Lucy Blue Tremblay's 1998 Live - recorded concert CD "I'm Ready".

Hillary is now a member of the duo "WILDSANG", with veteran Blues harp player Kate Freeman. WILDSANG's latest CD is simply entitled "BLUES" (available on Stone Tiger Records) and features Chicago, Piedmont and Delta blues.

As a soloist Hillary draws from her own work as a singer - songwriter and the ten years she spent working in the legendary clubs in New York's Greenwich Village, as well as her years playing guitar in various reggae bands in Brooklyn, New York. Hillary has inspired her audiences in clubs, concert halls, marches, Universities, rallies and festivals throughout the United States and abroad. She blends her intense and insightful poetry with bluesy - reggae - rhythm guitar to create songs that bring a soulful message of passion, compassion and activism to the listener.

Hillary's solo CD release of original music "Embrace The Morning" is available on Stone Tiger Records.
